A full-day Douro Valley tour from Porto with wine tastings, lunch and a river cruise costs from about $90 per person on a coach to around $240 in the smallest premium groups, and a private day starts at around $400 for the car. The $57 and $63 prices you see first on the booking sites are real, but they are half-day versions without lunch. Its listing puts a maximum of eight people in each vehicle and includes two wineries with Port tastings, lunch at a winery, a one-hour boat trip, olive oil tastings and bottled water. Pickup and drop-off are at Trindade metro station in central Porto, not at your hotel.
It costs $36 more than the classic coach day, and the smaller group is the main reason we’d choose it over the coach tour. Lunch is at a winery, and the reviews are stronger too (4.9★ against 4.7★).
Book this if you want the standard Douro day of wineries, lunch and river without being part of a large coach group. Don’t book it if you need collecting from your hotel, or if $139 is more than you want to spend; the coach day below costs $36 less.
A good lower-cost option

Its from-price already covers a full day with a meal: two family-run wineries, ten wines including a Vintage Port opened with fire tongs, a farm-to-table lunch or brunch, and a one-hour boat trip for the tour’s own guests. On 14 October its options cost $113 to $120.
Book this if you want a full day for close to the price of the big coach tours, with smaller producers and more tastings included. Don’t book it if you want the whole day in the Douro: part of it is spent in the Vinho Verde region. Hotel pickup is not included.
The cheapest full day with lunch and a cruise
From Porto: Douro Valley w/ Boat Tour, Wine Tasting & Lunch — from $63, 4.7★ from more than 22,000 reviews, more than any other Douro tour. The $63 is the afternoon half-day without lunch. The full 10-hour day with lunch in a wine cellar, a one-hour cruise and two tasting stops was $103 on 14 October. It travels by coach, and the listing warns that group sizes may increase without notice.
Book this if price matters most and you are happy with a large group. Don’t book it if you picture a quiet day at small wineries.
If the wine matters most
Porto: Douro Valley Wine Tour with a Sommelier & Boat Trip — from $159, 10 hours, 5.0★ from more than 820 reviews, an unusually strong review record for a Douro tour. It is limited to eight people, the driver is a sommelier, and the listing counts fifteen wines through the day, including a sparkling wine opened with a sabre.
Book this if you want to learn about the wine as much as see the valley. Don’t book it if you mainly want the scenery; the $139 tour gives you the same size of group and the same river hour for $20 less.
If you want hotel pickup and a small group
Douro Valley Small Group: 2 Wineries, Lunch & River Cruise — from $113, 10 hours, 4.8★ from more than 2,100 reviews. The $113 version leaves from Palácio da Bolsa in a Mercedes minibus of up to 19 people; the hotel pickup version, with at most eight guests, was $154 on 14 October. Both include two wineries, a traditional lunch with local wine and a 50-minute cruise.
Book this if being collected from your door is worth $15 more than our top pick to you. Don’t book it if you can walk to a central meeting point, which saves the difference.
Where do Douro Valley tours start?
Almost all start in central Porto between about 7:30 and 9:30 in the morning, at a meeting point such as Trindade, Lapa church, Praça da Liberdade or Palácio da Bolsa, or at your hotel if the option includes pickup. On the itineraries that give a time, the drive to the valley takes 70 to 105 minutes each way, so roughly three hours of a full day is spent on the road.
If you are already in the valley, or arrive on the Douro line train, some tours start in Pinhão and Régua instead. Why the lowest prices leave out lunch
The price a booking site shows first is the cheapest option on the cheapest date, which on the Douro is usually a shorter version of the tour.
- The option. The three near-identical classic tours listed from $63 all include a “Half-Day Afternoon Escape WITHOUT LUNCH” with one winery. The Porto: Douro Valley with Lunch (Optional), Tastings & Cruise is listed from $57 for a similar half-day; its full day with lunch and a second estate was $120 on 14 October.
- The date. The from-price is the cheapest date on sale, which is why several of the 14 October prices sit above it. The same option can cost more or less depending on the day you choose.
- The pickup. Several tours sell hotel pickup only as a dearer option, and some of the best-rated ones don’t offer it at all.
- Travelling alone on a private tour. Private tours listed “per person” assume at least two people. The Douro Private Tour – Customizable Experience is from $286 per person, but one person booking alone paid $573 on 14 October, the same as two.
